Brisa Romero

Brisa Romero, she/ella, is a lifelong Fillmore native, a first-generation queer Chicana, an LGBTQIA+ educator, and a community activist. As a Fillmore native, Brisa was able to experience firsthand the lack of support available to our community on this side of Ventura County. Resources for mental health, community support, and particularly LGBTQ+ resources were inaccessible on this side of the county. They required people to drive outside of Fillmore, something that most teenagers can only do with the help of an adult. Brisa shares that growing up as a closeted teenager in Fillmore was challenging, and there wasn't any accessible information around to help her navigate through these experiences she had. As an adult, Brisa strives to provide accessible LGBTQIA+ education to her community, advocate for underrepresented community members, and create affirming spaces wherever she goes.
